"The world can be such a sad place, at times. To raise a smile on a stranger's face is a million in the bank." -  Phil Gilliver

My writing offerings

I offer a diverse portfolio of comedic writing, spanning various formats and genres. My work is tailored to deliver fresh, innovative content for television, radio, and stage, always with a strong comedic core ready for production, including animation and radio situation comedies.

In the pipeline

I do have a couple of things on the go at the moment. Going back to August 2024 when my show “Revengers Assemble!” (co written by the marvellously talented Gary Colman) went to the Edinburgh Festival. It was a little bit of a fiasco at the time. Getting a good venue at the time the show was ready left us with slim pickings by then. Performed as a radio show by a shining cast of stand-up comedians and comedy actors, was about an evil supervillain who was captured by the superhero, Captain Fabulous, played by Canadian comedian Michelle Shaughnessey, and placed before a Kentucky judge where he was facing the electric chair for crimes against humanity.

On the recommendation of the good Captain, the judge was lenient and instead of frying his bottom, he was sent to a council estate in North Wales, which is based very loosely on Wrexham, where I live and mostly grew up. The villain, Pandemonium (with the pathetic superpowers of, well… a panda was told that his penance was to whip a superhero pair, with equally rubbish skills, into a super crime fighting team.

After being told constantly how the show would make a marvellous animation, plans are afoot by Gary and myself, mostly Gary to look into the possibility of turning it into a series of 15 minute animations for his brand new YouTube site “Dorks and Orks”, featuring his own amazing Dungeons and Dragons panel show featuring 3D animation, coming online in October 26.. Raising the cash for the animated Revengers will take a lot of money. So it’s fingers crossed until then.

Another project, also seen on my website is called “Ice Station Zebra,” or it is, until a better name comes along. All I can tell you about that is that it is about two scientists trapped in the Arctic. I can also tell you that it is currently in the hands of the committee of a radio production company in the US. If it happens I will publish the details on not only social media but also here on my website.

An interesting fact (well, I think it is.)

If you are curious about my surname, please feel free to call out, “Oi Gilliver, are you going on your travels. Which is obviously a reference to the book "Gulliver's Travels” by Jonathon Swift. I’m used to it. I’ve had it most of my life, and believe me, it only gets funnier each time and more original.

But did you know that my name is connected to the book? Well, you know now. I have a distant ancestor by the name of “Lawton Gilliver” who was the publisher to not only Swift, but also Alexander Pope. I don’t know the facts, but as the story goes, Lawton was a good friend of Swift and so he used a version of his name for his character, “Lemuel Gulliver”, and so there you have it.
